Local Project Support
Industrial modernization and adaptive reuse in Brantford.
Brantford projects may involve manufacturing expansion, warehouse conversion, older industrial buildings, commercial redevelopment and public or institutional facilities. Existing distribution, ventilation, heating systems and room clearances can constrain the scope, particularly where new equipment is introduced into an operating building.
Where a building permit is required, the City of Brantford administers the municipal review. Electrical service connections or upgrades may involve GrandBridge Energy; the project address and current connection requirements should be confirmed before the design basis is finalized.
Industrial owners can use our capacity and distribution study pathway together with guidance on industrial ventilation and make-up air.

Electrical service connection
GrandBridge Energy Inc.
GrandBridge's Conditions of Service say the former Brantford Power Rate Zone generally follows the city's 1991 boundaries, that some parts of the current City of Brantford are in the former Energy+ Rate Zone, and that rates or policies in the two former territories may differ for some time.
In Brantford's designated downtown core, bounded by Nelson Street, West Street, Brant Avenue, Colborne Street East and Clarence Street, electrical facilities are underground or in padmount enclosures; along parts of Colborne Street, Dalhousie Street and Brant Avenue, overhead secondary services are moved underground when a service is renewed or upgraded.
For general services above 50 kW in the former Brantford Power Rate Zone, the customer needs GrandBridge's prior approval for the service voltage at the location, and supplies, installs and maintains the secondary conductors, conduit and equipment on private property from the transformer to the service entrance.
GrandBridge needs an ESA notification number to book the connection appointment for a service layout, and an ESA Connection Authorization before it energizes a new service or re-energizes an altered one.
Rate zone: Brantford Power Rate Zone.
What to prepare
- GrandBridge's Service Layout Form, which records the type of development, phase, scope of work, existing and proposed voltage and amperage, overhead or underground service and the requested energization date
- For new commercial or industrial work: the Load Estimate Form, covering maximum demand in kW, the load forecast from energization to year five, the building or unit area and the type of business
- An electrical single-line drawing, together with the plan review submission made to ESA
- A legal reference plan and a legal electrical site plan showing where the padmount transformer will sit within the property boundaries
- For three-phase site plan projects: a final load calculation and single-line diagram sealed by a P.Eng., the approved site plan in PDF and DWG, and a final list of equipment that could affect power quality, with mitigation designs

Planning and growth areas
On May 26, 2026 the City of Brantford adopted Interim Control By-law 56-2026 for certain lands in its employment areas while it carries out a land needs assessment and a comprehensive review of those areas as part of its Official Plan review; on the affected lands, existing uses continue and new uses such as manufacturing, research, warehousing and food processing remain permitted.
