Local Project Support
Practical upgrades for Newmarket buildings.
Newmarket projects frequently involve commercial and professional space, medical or institutional facilities, municipal buildings, mixed-use properties and renovations within established sites. Existing panel capacity, HVAC zoning, accessibility and life-safety changes should be assessed against the proposed occupancy and project stage.
Where a building permit is required, the Town of Newmarket administers the municipal review. Electrical service connections or upgrades may involve NT Power; the project address and current connection requirements should be confirmed before the design basis is finalized.
Architecture-led projects can follow our electrical and mechanical consultant workflow; existing service questions can start with the Ontario panel-upgrade guide.

Electrical service connection
Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd. (NT Power)
NT Power's website says it serves customers in the Town of Newmarket, the Town of Midland and Tay Township, and its Conditions of Service (effective September 4, 2025) place the Town of Newmarket in its licensed service area under OEB distribution licence ED-2007-0624.
Under its Conditions of Service, customers consult NT Power on supply availability, supply voltage, service location and metering, need its approval to use a specific voltage at a specific location, and apply in writing for new or upgraded services; if the customer is not the registered landowner, NT Power needs the landowner's written consent.
The Conditions of Service also require written Connection Authorization from the ESA before any customer service is connected, and NT Power inspects and approves underground services itself before connection.
NT Power publishes system capacity maps showing estimated capacity at its stations and feeders, and describes them as a preliminary screening tool that does not replace a formal connection impact assessment.

What to prepare
- The online Service Connection and Upgrade Request form on NT Power's Service Requests page, choosing a new permanent service, an upgrade, a temporary service, an EV supply equipment connection or another request

- Service specifications such as voltage, amperage and load requirements, with the preferred meter base location and the estimated service date
- A surveyed AutoCAD drawing of the property showing the site from the road centreline to the back of the lot, the proposed footprint and driveway, the proposed hydro and gas meter locations, and existing gas, cable, phone and water services
- Before the service is energized: the ESA's Connection Authorization, the completed Service Agreement and Consent forms, and payment of any outstanding costs

York Region
York Region requires a permit before any work on Regional roads; work already approved through the development process, such as access points, underground and above-ground servicing and electrical installations, is installed under a Development-Related Approvals permit. Regional development charges for industrial, office and institutional buildings are determined when the local municipality issues the building permit.
