Local Project Support

Coordinated systems for Guelph facilities and campuses.

Guelph projects can combine industrial or food-related operations, institutional and campus buildings, laboratories, commercial properties and multi-residential work. Renovations often need careful separation of existing and proposed loads, ventilation performance, equipment redundancy and phased construction requirements.

Where a building permit is required, the City of Guelph administers the municipal review. Electrical service connections or upgrades may involve Alectra Utilities; the project address and current connection requirements should be confirmed before the design basis is finalized.

Architecture and facilities teams can review our MEP consultant workflow and the Ontario HVAC load-calculation guide.

Electrical service connection

Alectra Utilities Corporation

In October 2018 the Ontario Energy Board approved the amalgamation of Alectra Utilities and Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc., continuing as Alectra Utilities (Decision and Order EB-2018-0014, posted on Alectra's website).

That decision describes Guelph Hydro as serving the City of Guelph and the Village of Rockwood, and records the plan to keep a separate rate zone for the former Guelph Hydro area.

For commercial service upgrades, Alectra's request types are a change to the main incoming service, a new or changed sub-service, and disconnect/reconnect only.

Rate zone: Guelph Rate Zone.

What to prepare
